Your Role


Job description

We are looking for a talented Calculation Engineer to join our Air Treatment division at Atlas Copco in the Refrigerant Dryers & Chillers team. You will be at the forefront of our digitalization roadmap, taking the lead in developing mathematical models, simulations and calculation tools for our unique products and its components. You interpretation and analysis of calculations and test results, and integrating models and component data from lab and field tests into the adsorption dryer calculator


As part of the project team, you will assist in the development of new dryer products and technologies. The calculation engineer simulates the performance of individual components to complete machines. You are responsible for the development of the calculation tools.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and innovative team, working on a very important branch of our business: the development of the digital twin.


You will report directly to the team leader of engineering and you will be involved in following assignments:
Product development
  • Modeling refrigeration dryer & Chiller products and its components (specific challenges in two phase heat transfer)
  • Interpretation and analysis of calculations and test results
  • Integration of models and component data from lab and field tests into the dryer/chiller calculator
  • Analyses of remote field data related to dryer development and follow up projects
  • Selection, calculation and sizing of components and mechanisms for prototype and production dryers
  • Pre- and post calculation of lab test programs, development of calculation tools for lab purposes
  • Communication and presentation of calculation results
  • Remote follow up of dryer field- and endurance tests in cooperation with the project leader
  • Definition and preparation of test programs in close cooperation with the project leader and test engineer

Development of the calculation framework

  • Improve the accessibility of the calculation framework and calculated data for project engineers. Provide training to team members and other Atlas Copco divisions
  • Integration of the models into the general calculation framework.
  • Validation and optimization of the current calculation tools, offset visualization with respect to lab and field data
  • Provide support and insight to other divisions concerning the knowledge related to refrigeration technology
  • Integrate data in the Atlas Copco product selection tools
  • Follow up project progress and budget related to the calculation tools, presentation and communication to the management



To succeed, you will need

Knowledge and experience
  • Strong analytical mind
  • Strong interest and/or background in physical modelling and virtual simulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems
  • Solid background in statistics and thermodynamics
  • Proven experience in analytical software (i.e. MATLAB, Python, R…)
  • Experience in software programming (i.e. VB.NET, C#, C++,…) is a plus
  • Good knowledge of MS Office
  • Fluent communication in Dutch and English

Education

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equal by experience
  • Strong analytical mindset, machine learning skills, and experience with multiple programming languages (C++, Python, MATLAB, R, etc.).
  • Familiarity with thermodynamics and experience with modeling and simulation.
  • Ability to think out-of-the-box and contribute to improving the controls of the machines to become smarter.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build bridges between departments.
